Some of our Favourite Australian Essential Oils and why we use them

We’ve written many articles about essential oils, the importance of them and how we use them in our cleaning products.  However, one topic, which we’d like to share more with you; is our reasons for choosing the particular essential oils for our cleaning products and why they’re our favourites!

You see, when it comes to producing a cleaning product that is not only kind to the environment, but also does what it’s supposed to do, its good to know all of the options that are available. Our particular choices of essential oils for our cleaning products were made based on their effectiveness, fabulous scents and availability – we want to ensure that all our ingredients are sourced ethically and sustainably.

Now then, what are these essential oils that are so essential to the success of our cleaning products and Koala Eco?

  1. Eucalyptus Australiana (Eucalyptus Radiata)

The Eucalyptus Australiana has a special place in our cleaning products based on its versatility and gorgeous scent. The Eucalyptus Australiana is a fantastic option when it comes to disinfecting, cleaning, washing and improving the overall smell of your home. Nothing freshens up a room and makes the air smell clean like Eucalyptus does. Eucalyptus oil is even known to be anti-inflammatory and good for our immune systems as well. We love this incredible and multifaceted essential oil.

  1. Peppermint (Metha Piperita)

Besides the fresh and energizing zest of Peppermint’s scent properties, this natural pick-me-up is also packed with many antibacterial properties. Peppermint oil is known to help headaches, sooth nausea, improve concentration and memory. It is antiviral, antimicrobial, antifungal and an antioxidant. Peppermint is great at repelling insects including mosquitos, which makes it the perfect option for cleaning windows and glass doors. We love how it makes our glass sparkle and keeps insects away!

  1. Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia Citriodora)

Lemon Myrtle’s invigorating, fresh, zesty aromas provide an extraordinarily addictive and uplifting sensation. We feel more cheerful and energetic every time we use it. Not only does Lemon Myrtle smell fantastic, but it also works incredibly well as an antiseptic and surface disinfectant. It has anti-fungal, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties as well. For these reasons, we like to use Lemon Myrtle in lots of our cleaning products such as our dish soap and multi-purpose kitchen cleaner.

  1. Mandarin (Citrus Reticulata)

Mandarin barely needs an introduction due to the calming and revitalizing aromas it gives off. In studies Mandarin was found to reduce anxiety when inhaled. At Koala Eco, we have found the perfect jobs for one of our favorite essential oils. You will find Mandarin’s exceptional disinfectant properties in both our dish soap, kitchen multipurpose, fruit and vegetable wash and floor cleaner.

  1. Lemon Scented Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Citriodora)

Lemon Scented Eucalyptus is quite often referred to as one of nature’s super-healers.  This fresh, lemon-scented essential oil has many soothing and calming effects, which make it the perfect addition to our all-natural hand wash. It is both an antiseptic and a powerful natural preservative with anti bacterial and antimicrobial properties. Its light and refreshing scent contains therapeutic qualities that are both energizing and refreshing.

  1. Pink Grapefruit (Citrus Paradise)

Pink Grapefruit has been an extremely popular component in our All-Natural Room and linen Spray. Known for its detoxifying, stress reducing and cleansing properties. Pink Grapefruit releases not only a zesty, uplifting and fresh scent in our room spray, but also releases many energizing properties as well. All the while managing to remove malodorous smells in one’s home!

  1. Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis)

Due to its sweet, woody, citrus, forest-like scent, Rosemary is a natural winner. After lathering up with our hand soap your hands will be left perfectly scented.  We particularly like using Rosemary as it has a wide range of antiseptic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. There is also a deep, healing fragrance that is emitted from this amazing essential oil when applied to the skin or nearby surface.  Rosemary oil has even been shown to boost your immune system and decrease levels of the stress hormone cortisol. The warm and grounding aroma of this oil makes it a favorite of ours.

  1. Tea tree (Melaleuca oil)

Tea trees grow naturally in Australia. Tea tree oil has a long history in Australia’s culture. Native Australians used tea tree leaves to treat coughs and colds, heal infections and wounds and treat skin ailments. Tea tree oil is anti-inflammatory and anti-viral. It’s also a fantastic cleaner and works wonders on stubborn stains and hard to clean areas.

So, now that you know what some of our favorite essential oils are, we’d love to hear from you! Feel free to leave us a message and let us know what essential oils you like to use around the home and why.
